Seed swap

Collect your spare seeds – packets that you know you’ll never use up, seeds you have collected, familiar or unusual varieties, veg or flowers.

This year – with lockdowns, Grow Your Own interest, and seed shortages due to Brexit – it’s definitely time to start up a seed swap.

If you donate seeds, you’ll get free seeds in return.

WHY: Find plants that have flourished in specific local conditions; experiment with different varieties; find unusual or unexpected plants; save money; enjoy local, cyclical exchange within the community.

WHAT: Send, drop off or arrange for collection of any spare flower or vegetable seeds. Come to our stall at Chiswick Flower Market and choose your ‘swap’. (If you had no spare seeds to give, you can make a small donation – 50p per seed pack.).

HOW TO GIVE US YOUR SPARE SEEDS: There is a collection box at Planet Organic, Chiswick High Road (on the right, just inside the entrance) Or post seeds c/o: Polly Westlake, 66 Horn Lane W3 6NT. Seeds can be (safely) collected by arrangement by: polly_westlake@yahoo.co.uk.

WHERE TO GET YOUR SEEDS: There will be a Seed Swap Stall at the next Chiswick Flower Market, lockdown permitting, the first Sunday in March, April and May.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR SEED DONORS: Please ensure your seeds are in dry, well-sealed envelopes or packets, and properly labelled. Make sure the label includes:

  • Plant name: [eg Tomato]
  • Species: [eg Gardeners Delight]
  • Date collected or bought: [eg September 2019]
  • Any other information: (eg. F1, heritage, rare, delicious…)
